About Me/ Company
I absolutely adore dogs and love getting outside in nature, rain or shine! I work part time and would love to look after and walk dogs in my time off. I have my own car which I’m happy to use to pick up/ drop off dogs, to go to lots of different parks or even take more adventurous dogs for days outs further afield. Based in Crystal Palace, I have a small secure enclosed patio which can be used for toileting. I also live very close to Crystal Palace Park which is ideal for dog walks. I am hoping to look after a dog regularly and am currently available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and weekends, all day.
Previous Experience
I have experience of caring for and training my family’s red miniature poodle, Jasper, from 8 weeks to 2 years. This involved all aspects of dog care including; feeding, playing, 2-3 walks a day (rain, shine or snow!), training, giving medication and of course lots of attention and fuss!
As Jasper is a poodle, a very inquisitive breed, he needs a high level of attention and both physical and mental stimulation. This means I have lots of experience of keeping dogs busy and entertained with good routines, plenty of walks in different environments, and games - snuffle mats, finding games, tug, chase - to keep boredom at bay. As a lockdown dog, Jasper can sometimes be anxious around busy places or other dogs and can be reactive through fear, at times. This has given me insight into supporting anxious and reactive dogs, using positive reinforcement training, counter conditioning and desensitisation. I’m also used to reading dogs body language to see when they’re unsure in different places or around different people and dogs; so I can remove them from situations they’re uncomfortable in and prevent reactive behaviours wherever possible.
Jasper, as many poodles, cockapoos, doodle/ poodle crosses do, has allergies which affect his skin and needs an hypoallergenic diet. I therefore have plenty of experience of giving medication (tablets, ear/eye drops, foam/ creams etc), washing (Jasper needs his paws, mouth and bottom washed in medicated shampoo 3 times a week) and of avoiding foods and treats for dogs with food allergies.
Sadly (for me!) Jasper was always intended to be our family dog and lives in Norfolk where he is settled, happy and well looked after. Jasper joined our family just before covid hit when we had to shield for the best part of 2 years, so planning to stay to help look after him as a small puppy turned into 2 years of being inseparable. I still visit him often and we still have an incredible bond. I miss the day to day of looking after a dog so would love to look after your dog, keep each other company and go on lovely walks together.
