About Me/ Company
Potton Pet Sitting Services offers pet/home sitting for days out/weekends away/holiday cover. Run by a dedicated pet lover with over thirty years’ experience of owning and caring for dogs, cats, horses and various other small animals rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters etc. We cover a small local area including Potton and the immediate surrounding villages and towns. We are fully insured, police checked, and hold a Pet First Aid Certificate (PCTA).
All visits start off with a free initial consultation at your home which gives you the opportunity to meet your prospective petsitter and us the chance to get to know your pets and their environment. All aspects of the booking can be discussed at this time but if any questions occur to you later please don’t hesitate to contact us for clarification.
Pet sitting enables your pet to be looked after in familiar surrounding whilst you are away. You do not have to worry about transporting them to kennels and catteries or collecting them on your return. Additionally your home will benefit from extra security when you are away as your pet sitter will include services such as watering houseplants, collecting and moving mail, opening and closing curtains, switching lights on and off and putting out and bringing in bins to give your property a lived in appearance. If your return is delayed just notify us and we will return for extra visits to make sure your pets are cared for until you get back.
Potton Pet Sitting Services are a member of NarpsUK (Nationwide Associates of Registered Pet Sitters).
Previous Experience
For many years especially whilst the children were growing up our family has included a vast number of pets ranging from horses to hamsters. Dog showing, including five years at Crufts, became a big part of our lives when we acquired our Bichon Frise Harry. Rabbits were also shown with Burdock our British Giant attaining a breed Challenge Certificate. I’ve also done volunteer work for Wood Green.
I have always happily used kennels and catteries for my pets whilst on holiday. However in recent years a series of unforeseen family circumstances necessitated many irregular home absences and for the first time I started to call on the services of pet sitters to help me out.
The benefits of having a pet sitter soon became apparent. No more chasing indignant cats around to load into carriers, no more trying to squeeze various hutches and cages into the car only to have to go through the same process a day or so later on return. No more gut wrenching drives along the M25 worrying about how the dogs were going to cope being shut in the house for all those hours without a walk or food. And then there is the benefit of extra home security too.
The animals seemed to enjoy it too once they had met their pet sitter and got to know them. It was extra variety in their day with lots of extra attention. However I soon found a sticking point. A pet sitter can only sit a limited number of animals at any one time and are often unavailable for weekends and evenings. After all they have their own lives as well. I soon found I was cancelling plans rather than calling on complete strangers I didn’t know and just simply didn’t feel it was right to expect the animals to cope with a yet another person in their home. Realising I could offer cover for many popular busy times the idea of Potton Pet Services came about. It also gives me a good excuse to indulge in my passion for pets, it being more and more difficult to justify a large home menagerie now the children are getting older!!
Reliable, affordable and available are my three key goals but remember I can only be in one place at one time – BOOK EARLY where ever possible.
