Previous Experience

Hello everybody! My name is Sophie. I am the owner/director of Cushty K9s dog walking/pet sitting services. Here, I am going to tell you some of my experiences.



Even from a young age I was dog walking, horse riding, dog sitting, collecting animals from the garden. Mum would always tell me to put them back, of course! In the past I have owned several hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, degus, gerbils, dogs and cats and I rode horses daily.



My mum and I used to go to Bath Dogs and Cats home on a regular basis to browse all the dogs and take them for long walks. Seeing dogs behind bars gave me the extra boost needed to ensure I always provide quality care for other animals. Your animals!



I have completed a 2 year Level 3 Extended Diploma in Equine Management. This doesn't only cover horses. We did a unit on animal health and welfare that also covers canines, felines and rodents. Sometimes we included poultry.

I worked for a security company that owned 14 different working dogs varying from Springer Spaniels to German Shepherds. This was the biggest eye opener for me. I have learned that you need to be very adaptable with different breeds. German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Czech Shepherds and Belgian Malanois are the breeds I found most quirky. They do not act like your typical Shih Tzu or greyhound.



When I left here it gave me a great interest into researching different breeds so this is what I have done. I know a bit of information on most common breeds so this allows me to assess your dog's needs more efficiently. In my time here I completed a National Training Inspectorate for Professional Dog Users course.



The units covered were these:



1 Promote the professionalism of Security Dog Users
2 Formalise a suitable policy for training Security Dogs
3 Regulate Security Dog Handlers in their operational duties
4 Promote the training of Security Dog Users
5 Regulate and maintain the training of Security Patrol Dogs
6 Regulate and maintain the training of Specialist Dogs
7 Ensure the safety and welfare of Security Dogs
8 Detail strict licensing conditions
9 Maintain set standards
10 Assist the SIA in maintaining the PSI Act 2001
11 Promote equal opportunities throughout the profession

I have just completed my Dog First Aid training and have gained a certificate. Your dogs are in SAFE & SECURE hands.

Relevant Info

I am a BIG animal lover. I promise to make sure that your pets are treated to the highest standard possible. They will be treated as one of my own, whichever animal it may be. I live in the center of Westbury, Wiltshire which means I am able to get to all surrounding areas. Bratton, Edington, Berkley, Chapmanslade, Trowbridge, Frome, and so on! I walk my own dogs in various places whether it be on the lead or running freely with their favorite toys. We like to go to the local fields, White Horse, Southwick Country Park, Cley Hill, Battlesbury, Shear water (especially in the summer heat!), Heavens Gate - Longleat and many of the pedestrian routes across the local countryside. Also, I have a 130 ft long garden for your furry friends to play in during the day time in nice weather while they are boarded.
