About Me/ Company

Paul and I run a Dog Friendly Bed & Breakfast in Somerset called Arden Cottage.

We moved here 7 years ago and in that time we have made lots of friends, both of the human and canine kind.

We offer a 'dog hosting' service, whereby we look after peoples canine friends at Arden Cottage, whilst they either go away on holiday, a weekend, or for any other reason.

Whilst the dogs are with us, they become part of our family, we enjoy their company, take them for long walks, introduce them to our guests and other friends who have dogs, play with them in the garden, take them down the pub for Sunday lunch and generally treat them as if they were our own.

We now have many Christmas cards from our 'doggie' friends and have regulars who come back many times throughout the year to stay. Their owners know they can go away on holiday and have the peace of mind that their 'best friend' is happy and well looked after.

Prior to moving to Somerset I was a PA and Paul taught disadvantaged children the basics of the motor trade. We wanted to change our lifestyles and enjoy getting out in the countryside for walks. By looking after dogs we are able to include them in our walks and adventures.

Previous Experience

My experience has come from owning horses and dogs all my life. Until the loss of my own dogs (West Highland Whites) in 2003 I have always had dogs in my life and love having their company and energy around the house.

Offering these services is a way of getting our 'doggie fix' through enjoying other peoples dogs.

We have had many dogs who have stayed with us and continue to do so on a regular basis throughout the year.

Qualifications & Training

I undertook an Animal Behaviour Introduction & Advanced course in 2008, run by Fiona Warstat in Minehead. I also helped Fiona at her local socialisation classes. This helped me gain additional experience and knowledge in understanding dogs and how they think.

Apart from being great fun, it also helped me understand our four-legged friends.

Since then I have tried to continue my development in understanding dogs.

Jane is also a qualified Bowen Practitioner and Shibashi Tai Chi Instructor and Guests often book a treatment or a Tai Chi class during their stay.

Other Services

As an AA 4* B&B, Arden Cottage gets many guests staying with their own dogs. Many guests come back time and again because of the welcome they and their dogs receive whist staying at Arden Cottage. We offer a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

Guests often ask if they may leave their dog with us whilst they go to a wedding or out for a 'special' meal. This we are very happy to do.
